Could Mahira Khan and SRK's Twitter friendship get any better?

Raees stars Shah Rukh with Mahira Khan featuring as an influential bootlegger and his wife.
It's a film that's sparked off a great friendship.
Here's a summary of the banter between the gangster and his begum off the sets of Raees:
Mahira appears to be his #1 fan on Twitter:
But the backslapping is mutual:
They sometimes talk about work:
They sometimes fight about work:
There's the occasional birthday wish, of course:
And there is almost always an 'Uffff':

Why do Mann Mayal's characters love to make themselves miserable?

At its heart Mann Mayal is a simple story that shows us that the obstacles we face in life may exist only in our own hearts and minds.
Mannu (Maya Ali) is the naive daughter of a well-to-do family living in Hyderabad. When Mannu’s father hires her friend's older brother Salahuddin (Hamza Ali Abbasi) as her tutor, the latent attraction between them eventually blossoms into love. While Manu is brave and risks everything to be with Salahuddin, he doesn’t have the strength or confidence to ask for her hand because of his family’s inferior social and financial status.

The story so far

Mannu marries Mikail (Gohar Rasheed) but that is only the beginning of the young girl’s problems. Her new husband is beyond reform: he drinks, takes drugs and is addicted to gambling and partying. Even worse, he dislikes Mannu and makes clear he only married her to manipulate his parents.
Meanwhile, Salahuddin joins his friend Ifti’s (Vasay Chaudhry) business in Karachi but he is not made welcome by Ifti’s mean-spirited wife Kuki (Arjumand Rahim). Disgusted by Ifti and Kuki’s neglect and ill treatment of Ifti’s father, Salahuddin resolves to take care of the old man himself. After spending time with Ifti’s father (Talat Hussain), Salahuddin grows in self-confidence and realizes what a mistake he made rejecting Mannu and takes a chance to offer her a reconciliation.
Although Mannu is thinking of separating from the indifferent Mikail, she is still so angry with Salahuddin that she throws his offer back at him and returns to her husband.
As we inch towards the serial's close, Salahuddin inherits a lot of money from Ifti’s father and the story moves on three years. Meanwhile Mannu and Mikail have one son with another child on the way, as Mikail wants to make sure he inherits his father’s wealth.

Highlights

Gohar Rasheed takes to Mikail's negative character in Mann MayalGohar Rasheed takes to Mikail's negative character in Mann Mayal
This is one of the most popular shows on television, riding high on Hamza Ali Abbasi’s huge fan following. Doomed love affairs are always popular fodder and Hum TV has this genre refined to a marketing miracle.
Two exceptionally good-looking people suffering the slings and arrows of cruel fortune always makes for good ratings, it seems.
Gohar Rasheed has also been able to make his mark in this negative role. There is little nuance to Mikail and Gohar has for the most part played this entirely selfish character with a straight, hard-faced attitude that gives the serial a lot of its traction.

Talat Hussain is excellent as the dying father trying to hold on to a few shreds of dignity at the difficult last stage of life. Other plus points: production values are excellent, which one can expect from Hum TV

The other highlights have been Talat Hussain’s excellent portrayal of the dying father trying to hold on to a few shreds of dignity at the difficult last stage of life.
Mann Mayal is beautifully made with all the bright lights and colors at Hum TV’s command. Production values continue to be a plus point with this serial which combined with judicious use of the haunting title track makes this a visual treat.

Drawbacks

The arrival of Aisha Khan's character Jeena will hopefully shake things up in Mann MayalThe arrival of Aisha Khan's character Jeena will hopefully shake things up in Mann Mayal
It would be much easier to empathize with Mannu and Salahuddin’s difficulties if they actually seemed attracted to each other. While Maya Ali has kept her end of the bargain, Hamza Ali Abbasi seems disconnected for the most part.
There is no doubt that Hamza is a good actor after his stints in Pyarey Afzaland films Waar and Jawani Phir Nahi Aani, but his expressions in Mann Mayaldo not convey the pain of loss and separation that a broken heart might suffer. His subdued reactions to what should be painful situations cloud any understanding of his character’s motivations.
However, if he cannot play the wounded lover, he has certainly played the surrogate son to Ifti’s father really well. The onscreen chemistry between Abbasi and Talat Hussain was excellent. If only the same could be said of Vasay Chaudhry’s performance as Ifti. Vasey Chaudhry doesn’t seem to have taken his role seriously at all but Arjumand Rahim managed to make strong impression as Kuki.

Mann Mayal suffers from obvious plot holes. Why does Mannu stick with Mikaal even when her family would support her if she chose to leave? It’s hard to feel sorry for protagonists who have a clear path out of a difficult situation but choose to plunge into it anyway.

The slips and slides of logic in the main story don’t help the empathy quotient either. For example, why does the rude servant Jamal suddenly become a good guy after his patient dies? Why does Mannu never talk to her mother about her problems? And why does Mannu return to a man who has serious character flaws when her family is clearly willing to support her?
It’s hard to feel sorry for protagonists who have a clear path out of a difficult situation but choose to plunge into it anyway.
One of the biggest weaknesses is the complete lack of personality that Mannu’s character suffers from.
While Maya Ali has managed to make Mannu believable and even likable, it is very hard to find anything about her that isn’t generic.
Her main interests in life seem to be the men around her; she has no hobbies, no dislikes or likes; even her one friendship with Rabia is ultimately colored by her link to Salahuddin.
Next week’s promo shows the entry of a new character, Jeena, played by the talented Aisha Khan. This may as well be just the twist to bring some depth to a serial that is riding a wave of massive popularity but lacks the intensity it promised in the first episode.

First look: The trailer for J.K Rowling's Harry Potter spinoff is here

What better way to brighten up a Monday than with a little dose of Eddie Redmayne? The new trailer for the Potter series spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find them is finally here and it's getting us all kinds of excited.
The trailer shows Oscar winner Redmayne, who plays Hogwarts student before Harry's time, Newt Scamander, arriving in New York with a mystical suitcase.
Scamander becomes the 'author' of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, which decades later is used as one of Harry's schoolbooks at Hogwarts.

We also got their our first glimpse of Colin Farrell as the wizard Percival Graves in the new teaser.

People tell me I've done the same roles for the past 25 years: Shah Rukh Khan

It's a concern many of SRK's fans had when the film Fan was announced: Is the star just playing an updated version of old roles from Darr andBaazigar?
In Darr, SRK plays Juhi Chawla's stalker who hounds her with that now iconic line 'I love you K-K-K-Kiran' and in Baazigar, he plays a man who switches between identities to date both daughters of his family's sworn enemy as part of his plan to avenge his father's death.
SRK insists that neither of these roles influence his performance of the double role he will do in Fan:
"People keep telling me that I do the same roles for the past 25 years. Even the critics say that. But I have tried that and this is different. And Maneesh was very clear about the way this character is played, and I would not take any credit for having done it any differently when people find it different," Shah Rukh said at Fan's trailer launch.
Shah Rukh also clarified that his character is "not psychotic" and that he's "not a psychopath."
"It's the story of a very innocent boy, who does not get how he feels life would be, when he meets his biggest star. It's about innocence. It's about when you're young, you have stars in your eyes, and you feel that everything or the person that you love, will love you that much in return. But when sometimes things don't happen the way you think, you get a bit disturbed," he said.
Fan releases this weekend.

Also on their itinerary is a tour of the home of Mahatma Gandhi, a safari at the remote Kaziranga National Park and a meeting with the folks running Elephant Family, the elephant sanctuary supported by the family of Prince William's stepmother Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
They will round off their week-long trip with a tour of the Taj Mahal, where William's mother Princess Diana made a famous solo visit in 1992, a month before the announcement of her separation from Prince Charles.

Slut-shaming won't work, says Kangana of her very public spat with Hrithik

The Kangana-Hrithik spat has gotten uglier than the average divorce. In fact, it gets more complicated as each party files lawsuit upon lawsuit on the other.
According to Indian Express, the latest is that Kangana's lawyer has alleged to the Mumbai police commissioner that Hrithik is circulating her "absolutely private and confidential" photographs and emails to “non-concerned third parties”, thereby "wilfully outraging [Kangana's] modesty and imputing unchastity to her”.
The lawyer also said that Hrithik had “criminally threatened” Ranaut with these actions in his notice to her, and asked the police to “prevent cognizance of any such offence if the same has yet not been blatantly committed”.
So Kangana has released a statement, published on Miss Malini, that calls on Hrithik to prove that she has defamed him in order to get the public apology he seeks:
"In a legal matter only on record statements can be addressed not gossip. So here’s my final word: If the other party who sued me for defamation and asked for a public apology can prove defamation, I promise to apologise publicly. I request the other party to respond to the legal matter which they have started and not turn this defamation suit into a media trial and judgment."
She went on to openly call out Hrithik for his alleged blackmailing tactics:
"If they are sincerely seeking an apology then they must help me understand their perspective because blackmailing or threatening won’t work with me. Though my legal team is taking strict actions against blackmailing and threatening me, but as a girl it doesn’t scare me."
She then emphasises that the blackmailing has not 'shamed' her:
"You won’t get a sorry by threatening me or circulating my love poems, letters or images. I am not ashamed of anything, not my past, not my affairs, not my body and most definitely not my desire. So slut-shaming won’t work either."
She concluded thus:
"If they want an apology then they have to come to the point, beating about the bush won’t help, me and my team are eager to help as hurting sentiments isn’t our intention."

In the works: A chick flick starring Sonam Kapoor!

Ladies, here's something to look forward to for movie night: Sonam Kapoor is set to get girly in upcoming chick flick, Veerey Di Shaadi.
Directed by Shashanka Ghosh of Khoobsurat remake fame and produced by Sonam's younger sister Rhea, Veerey Di Shaadi will be along the lines of The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants series, which starred Blake Lively, and America Ferrera, among others.
"It's a journey about four girls going on a crazy trip and finding love," a source close to the development said, according to Mumbai Mirror.
"The girls will travel from Delhi to Europe and the makers have already begun scouting for suitable locations. The script will be locked and the prep done in a month's time. The film will roll in June," added the same source.
The film is also said to star Swara Bhaskar in the other lead role. Bhaskar was Sonam's co-actor in Anand L Rai's Raanjhanaa and Sooraj Barjatya's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
The actors enjoy a great camaraderie, it seems. Sonam had earlier desrcibed Bhaskar as her "new friend and confidante": "She and I have been shooting for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo together and recently I called her in the middle of the night to discuss our dismal loves lives."
The search is on for the other two actresses and four new faces who romance the girls.

Sunny Leone spills on her embarrassing fan moment with Shah Rukh Khan

Like most Bollywood actors, Sunny Leone too, dreamed of working with SRK one day. Well, her dream has come true.
We learnt a few weeks ago that Leone had been roped in for a cameo in his upcoming flick, Raees; she'll be grooving to the iconic '80s track 'Laila O Laila'during her brief appearance,
Talking to Indian Express, she revealed how much she had longed to share screen space with the King of Bolly town: "Working with Shah Rukh was unbelievable, it was a dream come true. When you wish for something every single day and then you get a chance, just the offer to work with somebody like him, it was a very proud moment for me."
"It was very emotional for me. I was like ‘I have make up on, control your emotions’. I was constantly saying, ‘Oh God! My first shot with him, thank you!'"
The usually cool, confident Leone says she would act like a total "shy dork" in front of Khan.
“You admire them, look upto them and then they’re in front of you and you just don’t know what to say,” shares the actress.
“The first time I walked out when I saw him on set, my hair was rolled up. I walked upto him and said, ‘Thank you so much for having me here’ and then went back to the dressing room, looked myself in the mirror and said, ‘Oh my God Sunny, that’s how you met him?’ My embarrassing moments just keep stacking.”
Sunny will wear a white, sequinned gown and feather headgear in the song and will try to woo SRK's character, the bootlegger Raees Khan.
Raees is slated for release on Eid this year.
